Training Videos

Increasingly animation is being used as part of industrial education videos. I have used it to explain processes like nuclear decommissioning and building refurbishment sequences, where 3d moving animations are required to explain the process in time as well as space. I have also worked on animated 3D illustrations to explain cash flow through a business, and the financial merits of car leasing.

Corporate Videos and DVD

Business video production has become a standard tool for business communication. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the power of the video and animation technology and forget that the key to having a satisfied client is to convey his or her ideas in a technically accurate and appealing manner so it is clear to their customer what can be achieved.

Corporate Logos

I have also worked on a number of animated 3D company logos. See the Scottish Equitable Logo on the animation page.

Trade Stands

Recently I have been asked to created 5 to 10 minute films to run as custom trade show displays. These would consist of animation, still photographs, text and music to run as part of a trade show display to attract customers and display the client's products in detail.

Interactive Multimedia Presentations

Once the animation has been created it can run as a stand alone sequence or it can be exported into an interactive 3d multimedia presentation. This would enable the viewer to navigate round the 3D objects and interact with them.

Business Presentations

Many of my clients require animated graphics to run within power point usually as part of a sales presentation. In my experience this gets very good results in terms of client understanding and therefore sales. It is one of the most rewarding parts of my work to create 3D animations for companies as part of a successful bid application. 3D illustrations and 3D animation have now become standard methods for showing objects that haven’t been created yet, such as buildings in the planning stage or experimenting with product designs.

Solid Modelling

If your company is developing products using Solid modelling software, I can import your models into 3ds max for lighting, texturing and animation. Models exported from solid modelling software are usually more detailed and accurate than if they were modelled any other way. It also significantly brings down the cost of the animation. Although most solid modelling software has some animation and 3d cad rendering capability, there are some areas that require a dedicated animation package to realise all the potential of animation. By using 3ds max and importing solid models using STL or other file transfer formats you then have the ability to put the product in its intended environment. It could also be composited against live video to really bring it to life.

Compositing

Compositing is the term used for combining one image over another so that the results appear to be all part of the same screen. This technique is familiar to anyone who has studied the making of Lord of the Rings or other recent films. Often the actors perform in front of a blue screen, which is later digitally removed and a dramatic backdrop substituted. This process can now be done without the Hollywood budget, composting computer-generated images against previously shot live video. An example of this technique can be seen in the Luton bus project on the animation page.
