Compositing
Compositing is the term used for combining one image over another so that the results appear to be all part of the same image. This technique is familiar to anyone who has studied the making of Lord of the Rings or other films. Often the actors perform in front of a blue screen, which is later digitally removed and a dramatic backdrop substituted. This process can now be done without the Hollywood budget, composting computer-generated images against previously shot live video. An example of this technique can be seen in the Luton bus project on the animation page.
Our 3D Animation Software
The software that I use for animation is 3D Studio MAX along with Combustion for compositing animation and video and creating special effects. In addition to the standard 3DS Max render engines I also use the V-Ray rendering system. As this is a high quality raydiosity renderer that bounces the light off the different objects in the scene to give a more real world look to the animation.
